You have to actually pull it
A lot of people land on this, wait, then leave. Nothing happens on its own. The little metal tab sits at the top of the seam and stays there until you press it and drag. Mouse, finger, doesn’t matter. Pull it past halfway and the fabric gives up and the whole thing splits open.
Let go early and it springs back. Which is annoying the first time and then becomes the point.
Sound off, patience on
The original doodle made a zip noise. This one doesn’t, because nobody wants a page shouting at them from a background tab. What it keeps is the teeth separating in sequence rather than the whole seam popping at once, which is the bit that makes google zipper feel tactile instead of like a fade transition.
Two ways to run it
Drag it yourself for the satisfying version. Or hit the button and let it open on its own, which is what most people do on a phone when the pull keeps slipping out from under their thumb. The google zipper game works the same either way, the manual pull just feels better.
Zip it back up and you can do the whole thing again. There’s no score. There’s nothing to win. It’s a zip.
