Setting up a game room? Here’s what you’ll need

    ElenaBy ElenaAugust 21, 2024No Comments4 Mins Read

Plenty of gamers dream of having their own space to kick back and relax in. Some of the luckiest of us already have game rooms set up! However, if you’re new to the idea of designing your own entertainment space, there are a few things you might want to prioritize.

Based on our own personal experiences, here’s what to start looking for when setting up your very own games space.

    Dive into decor

Naturally, it’s the games that count — but to really add to the atmosphere, think carefully about the decor touches you might want to act as a backdrop for your room.

If you’re a big fan of arcade games, you might want to consider a few decorative cabinets, some classic sprite decals or even some neon signs to give the room the look of a classic arcade from years gone by.

Alternatively, if you’re more into your casino games, you could set up a card table or two, or adorn your space with wood paneling and green felt. You could also go all out and recreate Vegas, with jazzy carpeting and art deco touches.

If you need ideas on this front, you can see more casinos on Oddschecker for aesthetic inspiration and to make the perfect choice related to casino games to include!

    Plan to plug in

A games room is going to rely on electricity. Even if you’re setting up a space with a billiard table or a roulette wheel, it pays to plan out the electricity.

If you’re designing a game room from scratch, make sure you enlist the help of a licensed electrician, and think carefully about where you need power outlets to go.

You could set up a full power rig on one side of the room for you to plug in a TV and some consoles, or you could have a full array of sockets ready for arcade cabinets. While it’s easy to think about the design of your space first, functionality and accessibility are just as important!

    Build your collection

No game room is ever complete without an inspiring “menu” of sorts. If you’re designing a room for video games, you might want to install cabinets to store games and peripherals. That way, they’re easy to access when you need them, and you can show them off too!

For billiard or casino rooms, think carefully about the games you want to include. A full-size pool table is going to take up lots of space! If you want to include both a roulette wheel and a poker table, you might not have much room for other Vegas staples.

The point we’re making here is that it’s a great idea to fill out your room with a wide variety of games and experiences, but planning ahead for space will help to make it more accessible and comfortable.

    Refresh and recharge

Whether you need a break from shooter games, online battle royales or classic platformers, there’s nothing quite like a game room with refreshments. Why trudge all the way to the kitchen for snacks and drinks? Think about including a mini fridge if you want to store beer or soft drinks for gaming sessions.

For snacks, you might want to consider a special trolley that you can fill with baskets of chips and sweet treats. Then, push the trolley to one side and get your game on.

Of course, your perfect game room doesn’t have to look anything like this! The best advice we can give, however, is to plan ahead before adding tons of games and pieces to your space. Take your time and build a space you’ll always want to come back to.
