Ranking the Best Video Games Set in Los Angeles

    ElenaBy ElenaJune 17, 2026No Comments3 Mins Read

Video games not only create fictional worlds but also use real places. Cities are often used in video games and Los Angeles has proved to be one of the most popular. Read on to find out more about the best video games set in Los Angeles.

Ranking the Best Video Games Set in Los Angeles

    1. Grand Theft Auto 5

Grand Theft Auto 5 is not only the best video game set in Los Angeles but one of the greatest video games of all time. Released in 2013, GTA 5 is based on Los Angeles back in the 2010s and it is incredibly detailed.

Local people playing the game noticed small details that they pass in the street on their daily commute, adding an increased level of realism to the game. Another highlight of the world created in GTA 5 is the Diamond Casino & Resort.

This digital casino features a lively gambling floor that emulates real life, table games and even slot machines.  Of course, the Diamond Casino’s wins are purely virtual — however, those interested in the real thing can look to offers like the Hollywood Casino Promo Code.

From such a bustling environment, it is evident that no stone was left unturned when creating the living city of Los Angeles in GTA 5 and the premium library of casino games you will find having signed up using the code is also second to none.

        2. L.A. Noire

Not far behind GTA 5 in our ranking of the best video games set in Los Angeles is L.A. Noire. Like GTA 5, this game was published by Rockstar Games but focuses on a completely different era. L.A. Noire is set in 1940’s Los Angeles and the City of Angels looks incredible.

Several Los Angeles landmarks have been recreated in stunning detail including Union Station, Grauman’s Theater, Chinatown, and Los Angeles Public Library.

Playing the role of detective Cole Phelps, you solve a series of cases in the city, and the game includes an interesting interrogation mechanic. For those who want to experience a retro game in Los Angeles, L.A. Noire tops the list.

          3. Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines

Released in 2004, Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines was an early addition to the open world role playing game genre. However, it remains a wonderful game set in a Los Angeles that can mostly be explored by night.

There are plenty of recognisable LA locations in the game, including Hollywood and Santa Monica plus the character creator means the game plays differently for every player.

This game may look dated by today’s standards but Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines has enjoyed many modifications over the years and remains one of the best video games set in Los Angeles.

            4. True Crime: Streets Of LA

We continue the retro gaming theme with the last of our top Los Angeles based video games. True Crime: Streets Of LA was released back in 2003 and despite being over 20 years old, it holds up well, especially in terms of the number of LA landmarks featured in the game.

If gun fights, martial arts, and car chases in the streets of Los Angeles sound exciting, it is not too late to play True Crime: Streets of LA. The game has a gripping storyline, exciting driving sequences, and action-packed cinematic combat.
