Will Phasmophobia Ever Release on Xbox and PS5? Understanding the Console Delays

Since its launch, Phasmophobia has grown very popular as a cooperative horror game, especially with fans of the paranormal.
Yet, it’s only available on PC. Although there have been announcements about a console release, it has been postponed and remains PC-exclusive.
Those looking forward to playing it on Xbox and PS5 might be asking: Will Phasmophobia ever come to consoles?
Here’s what we know about its upcoming release and the delays for consoles.
Phasmophobia on Xbox and PS5: Any Release Plans?
In July 2023, Kinetic Games shared a trailer revealing that versions of Phasmophobia for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation VR2 were expected in August 2023.
These console versions would launch in Early Access, similar to the PC version, until fully ready for release.
However, on August 24, 2023, the lead developer, Dknighter, announced on the Phasmophobia Discord server that the console release would be postponed until October.
Now, a few months into 2024, Phasmophobia has yet to be released on console.
Has the Phasmophobia Console Release Been Postponed Once More?
On October 17, 2023, Kinetic Games posted their 15th development preview update about Phasmophobia on the game’s Steam blog.
Under a section called Console Update, the developer explained their difficulties adjusting to remote work after a recent fire incident, and the unexpected challenges in bringing the game to consoles.
Additionally, they mentioned problems with optimizing the game for PlayStation VR2, which needed more time.
Due to these issues, the release of Phasmophobia’s console version has been postponed indefinitely.
The developers are still working on it, but there’s no set release date yet. Since that update, there have been two more developer previews.
The first, in January, stated that the console version was still not ready and promised updates as soon as there were any.
The second, in February, did not discuss the console version at all.
From what we know, the Xbox and PS5 versions of Phasmophobia are still planned but might not be released soon.
