Konami will resurrect Silent Hill and MGS

/wp:heading

Hideo Kojima had a hand in all the major installments of Metal Gear Solid, and before he left Konami, he also wanted to make a new Silent Hill installment. Its interactive teaser, titled P.T., is still remembered as the scariest demo in video game history.

/wp:paragraph
wp:paragraph

Kojima and Konami were rumored to have parted ways on bad terms, so both series were forgotten for a long time. Various insiders had been assuring fans that the Japanese company was about to revive its iconic franchises, but each time, no official announcements followed. Konami didn’t seem to care anymore, shifting its focus to the arcade market.

/wp:paragraph

In 2023, rumors surfaced that the company would resurrect both Silent Hill and MGS at once, with multiple announcements on the horizon.

/wp:paragraph
wp:paragraph

Surprisingly, this information turned out to be true: the horror series is getting four new games, including a remake of the second part, and the classic Metal Gear Solid titles will be re-released on all current platforms. However, only one of them—MGS3—will receive a full-fledged remake.

Denuvo will actually be able to protect games

/wp:heading
wp:paragraph

All attempts to defeat piracy have failed sooner or later. In some cases, anti-piracy programmes have worked, but hackers have still found a way around them. This was the case with Denuvo, at least in the early years of its existence.

/wp:paragraph
wp:paragraph

However, almost 10 years after the first version, the authors still managed to make the defence, if not perfect, then strong enough. With the advent of Denuvo, hacker activity has virtually disappeared. Professional hacking teams recognised the complexity of the software: it was financially unprofitable to bypass the protection for weeks for the sake of free games.

/wp:paragraph
wp:paragraph

Of course, not everyone gave up. Denuvo’s main enemy is the hacker Empress, the ‘ empress’ and ‘goddess,’ as her fans call her. She continues to hack games, criticise publishers and post provocative posts. But even her powers are only enough for rare hacks of the most sought-after games.

GTA 6 details will be leaked before the announcement

/wp:heading
wp:paragraph

The first rumours about the new part of the cult series appeared a few years after the release of GTA 5. In the following years, various media and insiders promised a variety of games: from drug cartels in the neon 80’s to a crime thriller in the present day. The authors of rumours promised the most different number of characters and settings.

/wp:paragraph
wp:paragraph

The most reliable information was shared by journalist Jason Schreier. He assured that the heroes will be less (only two), and the events will unfold in Weiss City. And on 18 September 2022 in the network leaked a huge archive with a lot of videos on GTA 6 – the first hour no one believed that it’s true.

/wp:paragraph
wp:paragraph

But the leak was confirmed: Rockstar’s servers were rumoured to have been hacked by a 17-year-old hacker, although the details of the investigation were never officially revealed. It was a big blow to the company, which had previously managed to keep all its secrets under wraps. Rockstar has admitted that the leak is real, but development continues as normal.

Call of Duty authors will abandon the story campaign

/wp:heading
wp:paragraph

In April 2018, it was reported that the authors of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 had abandoned the story campaign, and for the first time the focus of the release would be solely on multiplayer, co-operative zombie mode and battle royal.

/wp:paragraph
wp:paragraph

For a series that has become famous for its powerful story levels, this seemed unusual, but still a natural fit. In recent years, network modes have been gaining in popularity, battle royals have been gathering armies of players, and Black Ops 3’s single-player mode has been completed by less than 10% of users.

/wp:paragraph
wp:paragraph

As it turned out later, the authors simply didn’t have time: the team came up with an ambitious co-operative campaign, but couldn’t finish it in time. That’s why Black Ops 4 really came out without a story mode, which they tried to compensate for not being the most successful battle royal.

/wp:paragraph
wp:paragraph

Activision later recognised the experiment as controversial: the game failed to live up to expectations, and its circulation was less than that of many other games in the franchise. In the following parts, the story mode was not only returned, but also paid a lot of attention to it.

The new HL will only be released in VR

/wp:heading
wp:paragraph

Blogger Tyler McVicker a few days before the official release of Alyx started talking about Valve’s plans to release a breakthrough VR action game in the Half-Life universe.

/wp:paragraph
wp:paragraph

The insider described the game in such detail that the leak seemed to be a well thought-out fairy tale: realistic graphics, Alyx as the protagonist, gravity gloves, long duration, new types of enemies and full exclusivity for virtual reality.

/wp:paragraph
wp:paragraph

The biggest question was the platform: it seemed that no company would dare to release one of the most anticipated games in the world exclusively for VR.

/wp:paragraph
wp:paragraph

But Valve really did it: very soon Alyx was officially presented, and a few months later the game was on sale. The action was designed for virtual reality, so it didn’t make any sense to transfer it to regular controllers. Moreover, the game continued the plot of Half-Life 2: Episode 2 just a little bit – which, of course, infuriated many fans, who dreamed to play the third part.

CD Projekt is working on three Cyberpunk 2077 games at once

/wp:heading
wp:paragraph

The concept for Cyberpunk 2077 sounded very ambitious. The studio, which for years made one ‘The Witcher’, decided to take on a game in a new genre, a new setting, with the participation of Hollywood stars of the first magnitude, and even release the game on all current platforms at the same time.

/wp:paragraph
wp:paragraph

However, closer to the release there was a rumour that CDPR made big bets on the franchise and is simultaneously making not one, but three games in the Cyberpunk universe.

/wp:paragraph
wp:paragraph

Later the information was confirmed: although small teams worked on the games, some resources were still directed to a large network game and one more project, which remained a mystery. After the scandalous launch of Cyberpunk 2077 it was announced that both games were cancelled, but the studio continues to think about the network mode in CP2077 itself.

Microsoft will release two next-gen consoles at once

/wp:heading
wp:paragraph

Two years before the Xbox Series release, rumours have surfaced online that Microsoft wants to enter two market segments at once – premium and budget.

/wp:paragraph
wp:paragraph

The company is allegedly not afraid to confuse buyers and at the start of the new generation will release a powerful 4K-console and a variant weaker, but noticeably cheaper, with the expectation of streaming pictures.

/wp:paragraph
wp:paragraph

The rumour turned out to be true, but with one caveat: the Xbox Series S doesn’t really rely on cloud technology yet, and turned out to be just a weaker and cheaper console. That could change in the near future: Microsoft continues to test the Xcloud service, so it may soon be safe to play cutting-edge games with great graphics on the Xbox Series S.

Sony’s exclusives will start coming to PC in droves

/wp:heading
wp:paragraph

While Sony’s exclusives remain one of the main trump cards of PlayStation consoles, PC ports of these games have been talked about for a long time. Back in 2013, Shuhei Yoshida explained that PlayStation hopes to turn into a global gaming service that is available across platforms.

/wp:paragraph
wp:paragraph

The mass popularisation of cloud technology has yet to happen, but over the years a huge number of games have been released on PC that were initially only available on PlayStation. These include Death Stranding, Days Gone, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, Detroit: Become Human, Journey, The Unfinished Swan, The Persistence, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, the Yakuza series, and Uncharted 4.

/wp:paragraph
wp:paragraph

What’s even more interesting is that Sony and Microsoft are now pursuing a similar strategy: both companies have made no secret of their interest in the PC market. Although the Japanese company still does not believe in simultaneous release: with the help of ports of old parts it rather encourages people to buy new PlayStation for the sake of sequel games.

The new Fable will be made by the authors of racing simulators

/wp:heading
wp:paragraph

In 2018, there was a rumour about Microsoft’s decision to resurrect the Fable series. The surprise was that the game was allegedly given to Playground Studios, which has been making Forza Horizon racing games for the past 10 years. The leak said that it would be an expensive open-world action-RPG, on which the publisher was not going to spare resources.

/wp:paragraph
wp:paragraph

A couple of years later the information was officially confirmed: Playground decided to work in a new genre. But the game, judging by the latest trailers, is far from being finished. So we can’t evaluate the success of the studio yet.
