Is Warframe Crossplay?

Warframe’s major cross-play update in 2022 sparked fans’ curiosity about adding a cross-save feature to the space-themed action RPG. 

The developers have now implemented the cross-save feature in Warframe, but how does it work, and are there any limitations? Here’s what you need to know.

In its initial iteration, Warframe presented a unique focus on close-quarter combat with agile, ninja-inspired characters.

Is Warframe Crossplay?

Warframe includes cross-play functionality. Following extensive testing on multiple platforms, Digital Extremes has successfully implemented this feature for PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch.

How to enable cross-play?

To enable or disable cross-play in Warframe, simply navigate to the Options menu and find the toggle option at the bottom of the page.

How to join with friends?

You can team up with friends through Squad matchmaking, enabling you to join your teammates or extend invitations to them just as you would on the same platform. 

You can convene in Relays or explore Dojos together. However, there’s a known issue with entering Dojos in a cross-platform squad, which can be bypassed by sending invitations after already being in the Dojo.

Warframe’s cross-save feature

Warframe’s cross-save feature provides two methods to unify your accounts:

1. Linking: Suited for users with a primary account, this option allows you to designate one account as your main. Its progress, items, and most purchases will be accessible on any linked platform (such as Switch, PC, Xbox). It’s important to note that linking is irreversible.
2. Merging: You can create a unified and powerful account by merging multiple eligible accounts. The chosen Primary Account retains its progress, while other accounts’ resources, cosmetics, etc., are combined. However, it’s crucial to know that account merging is only available for accounts created before November 24th, 2023.

Warframe’s Cross Save function enables you to maintain consistent access to your game progress, items, and currencies across different platforms. This ensures a seamless and uninterrupted gameplay experience, regardless of your platform.

Linking Your Warframe Accounts

• Prerequisite: Before initiating the linking or merging process for your Warframe accounts, you must have an existing PC Warframe account.
• Step-by-Step Guide: Start by linking or merging your accounts one by one to your PC account. This creates your central hub for cross-platform save data. Then, you can keep adding more platforms to this central account until all your accounts are connected for seamless cross-platform play.
• Importance of PC Account: While having a PC account is a requirement for establishing a Cross Platform Save Account, it’s worth noting that you don’t need to download or play Warframe on a PC to utilize your Cross Platform Save Account.

Limitations of Warframe Cross-Save

1. Nintendo Switch Purchases: In-game purchases made with Platinum and Regal Aya on the Nintendo Switch will only be usable on that platform and won’t carry over to other devices.
2. Shared Wallet (PC, Xbox, PlayStation): PC, Xbox, and PlayStation players can share their in-game wallet. This means Platinum and Regal Aya purchased on any of these platforms will be available on all three.
3. Platform-Specific Cosmetics: Some cosmetic items, like the Nintendo Switch’s Opal Skins, are explicitly designed for that platform and won’t be accessible to others. Similarly, platform-specific cosmetic lines, such as PlayStation’s Obsidian Skins and PC-exclusive skins, won’t be available on other devices after merging your accounts.
4. TennoGen Availability: TennoGen customizations might not be available across all platforms, depending on where they were initially purchased. Players should consult specific guides for details on how TennoGen items are affected by Cross Platform Save.
